A few years ago I was visiting my brother and his wife in San Fransisco. One of my favorite things that I took away from that trip, other than just great memories, is this amazing little lemon juice & ginger shot that they made every morning! This shot isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s spicy and definitely wakes you up! Especially if you’re brave and add a pinch of Cayanne Pepper like I do.
Both Lemon & Ginger are incredibly good for you! Ginger is anti-inflammatory and has been used for centuries. It can even help relieve sore muscles and joints from exercise. It can also help alleviate intestinal gas by boosting digestion. Over all, ginger is a superhero in my opinion. Lemon is an immune system booster with lots of Vitamin-C, which I could always use. Especially while pregnant.
Sure, it might seem a bit of an extra step in the morning to add to your breakfast. But I love starting my day off in a positive and healthy way when I can. You can juice the ginger and lemon by hand or with a juicer. I grabbed some lemons from my neighbors tree for free. I did ask first. 🙂 I love ginger so much. I use it a lot. But you’re going for enough juice to fill a shot glass. Definitely shoot this shot! It is intense if you’re trying to sip on it.
Because ginger can be a bit of a pain to peel and juice, you can also juice a good amount of Ginger and freeze it in ice cube tray. Once frozen, place the cubes in a ziplock bag and keep frozen for as long as you like, to use when you’d like. If you keep it in the fridge, I wouldn’t use it after 24-48hrs. Of course, if you have the time, juice it in the moment.
1 Medium Size Lemon
1-2″ Peeled Ginger
Pinch of Cayenne Pepper (Optional)
If you’re looking for a shot with alcohol but without all those sugary mixers, just add vodka. Preferably in the evening. 🙂
